Karet Returns & Warranty Policy
Last updated: 23 October 2025
Karet is committed to fair, transparent returns that comply with South African consumer law. This policy applies to purchases made directly from Karet (online or in-store). If you purchased through a third-party retailer, please initiate your return at the original point of sale.
1) Your legal rights (summary)
-
Six-month implied warranty of quality: If goods fail to meet the standards in the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) within 6 months of delivery, you may choose a repair, replacement, or refund. The return is at the supplier’s risk and expense.
-
Cooling-off after direct marketing: If you concluded a transaction due to direct marketing, you may cancel within 5 business days.
-
E-commerce cooling-off: For electronic transactions, you may cancel within 7 days (ECTA).
-
Right to examine & return unsuitable goods: If you did not have a reasonable chance to examine the goods before delivery, or the goods don’t match a sample/description or a communicated purpose, you may return them (typically within 10 business days). =
Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights. Where this policy conflicts with applicable law, the law prevails.
2) Karet’s standard return windows (in addition to the above)
Because trailers are regulated products that are registered and licensed, we handle them differently from accessories.
Collection of Non-Personal Information
We may automatically collect non-Personal Information about you such as the type of internet browsers you use or the website from which you linked to our website. We may also aggregate details that you have submitted to the site (for example, the products or services you are interested in). You cannot be identified from this information and it is only used to assist us in providing an effective service on this website. We may from time to time supply third parties with this non-personal or aggregated data for uses in connection with this website.
A. Trailers
-
Change-of-mind (standard-spec trailers):
-
Before registration/licensing and within 14 days of delivery: Allowed, unused and unmodified, subject to inspection. A reasonable restocking fee (up to 10%) may apply to cover admin, pre-delivery prep and handling.
-
After registration/licensing or once towed/used: Not eligible for change-of-mind return (we can no longer resell as new). This does not affect your rights if the trailer is defective.
-
-
Custom-built or modified trailers: Not returnable for change-of-mind (defect claims still covered under the CPA).
B. Parts & Accessories
30-day change-of-mind: Unused, in original packaging, with proof of purchase. Inspection required. (Electrical parts once installed are not returnable unless defective.)
3) What counts as a defect (examples)
Covered as a defect (within 6 months): manufacturing faults in chassis/frame, welds, suspension, hubs/axles, lighting looms/components, or workmanship that makes the trailer unsafe or not fit for ordinary use. Your remedy (repair, replace, or refund) is your choice under the CPA.
Not covered as defects: normal wear and tear, damage from misuse/overloading/impact, improper maintenance, unauthorised modifications, corrosion from neglect, or damage arising after delivery due to accidents or non-compliant use.
4) Returns process (how to start)
-
Contact us to obtain an RMA: info@karet.co.za or +27 861 77 22 22
-
Have ready: proof of purchase, VIN/serial, clear photos, and a short description of the issue.
-
Inspection & transport:
-
Defect/CPA returns: We’ll arrange collection at our risk/expense where required by law, or book an inspection at the nearest Karet facility.
-
Change-of-mind returns: You’re responsible for returning the goods to the location we specify. We can quote for collection if needed.
-
5) Registration, licensing & documentation (trailers)
For any trailer return, please provide the NaTIS/VIN details and any licensing paperwork. Once a trailer has been registered/licensed in your name, it is considered used and not eligible for change-of-mind return. (Statutory defect rights remain.)
6) Refunds, replacements & timelines
-
Defect/CPA returns (within 6 months): You choose repair, replacement, or refund. If we repair and the same issue reoccurs within a reasonable period, you may demand a replacement or refund.
-
Cooling-off refunds: Processed within the time frames required by law (we aim for 10 business days after inspection; direct-marketing refunds must be within 15 business days of notice). Refunds are made to the original payment method.
-
Deductions: For change-of-mind returns, we may deduct reasonable fees for: restocking, any non-recoverable registration/licensing fees, and non-returnable services already performed (e.g., customisations). No deductions apply to refunds for statutory defects.
7) Exchanges
Where stock is available, you can exchange instead of refunding. Price differences will be settled accordingly. Exchange shipping follows the same rules as returns above.
8) Non-returnable items (unless defective)
-
Custom-built or customised trailers, special-order items.
-
Electrical parts that have been installed/used.
-
Items damaged after delivery due to misuse, neglect or accidents.
-
Clearance items sold “as-is” (defect rights may still apply where not expressly excluded by law).
